ACTIONS TO STRENGTHEN THE PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF COVID-19 FOR TRAVELERS FROM ABROAD

Following the worldwide spread of the Omicron variant (B.1.1.259) several new control, preventive and protocol measures have been updated effective December 8, 2021. The new protocols are applicable to:

📌 Malaysian travelers and long-term pass holders arriving from countries subject to temporary travel restrictions
📌 Travelers from countries reporting Omicron variant transmission
📌 Langkawi Island International Tourism Bubble
📌 Complete Vaccine Travel Route by Air Between Malaysia-Singapore (VTL-Air and VTL-Land)
📌 Short Term Business Visitors (STBT) who enter Malaysia through the One Stop Center (OSC) platform provided by MIDA

MOH will continue to monitor the development of new variants and make updates from time to time.

 

Control & Preventive Measures of the Omicron Varian in Malaysia for travelers arriving from countries under temporary travel restriction:

  • South Africa
  • Botswana
  • Eswatini
  • Lesotho
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Zimbabwe
  • Malawi

New protocols effective 8 December 2021

  • Quarantine at a quarantine centre for 14 days
  • No ‘time off’ allowed
  • PCR Covid-19 test 2 days before departure
  • RT PCR at arrival
  • RT PCR on day 10 of quarantine
  • Digital tracker must be worn
  • Risk evaluation on day 14, and extension of quarantine if necessary
  • Free from quarantine on day 15 if there’s no extension and PCR test on day 10 was negative

 

Control & Preventive Measures of the Omicron Variant in Malaysia for travelers arriving from the high-risk countries:

  • Australia
  • United States of America
  • United Kingdom
  • Norway
  • France

New protocols effective 8 December 2021

  • PCR Covid-19 test 2 days before departure
  • PCR Covid-19 test on arrival
  • Wearing of a digital tracker on arrival at International Gateway
  • Mandatory quarantine: 7 days or 10 days depending on vaccination status
  • Quarantine at home or centre, subject to Home Quarantine Application approval
  • PCR test on day 5 (for those on 7 day quarantine) and day 8 for those on 10 day quarantine)
  • Risk evaluation on last day of quarantine (day 7 or day 10). Quarantine period to be extended if symptomatic
  • Free from quarantine on day 8 or 10 if quarantine is not extended and PCR test on day 5 or 8 was negative.
