Emir Mahidzar

I successfully completed a three-month internship at the Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC) from November 2023 to January 2024. During this period, I was assigned to the Events and Membership Department, reporting directly to Carol Edwin, the Events and Membership Manager.
My primary objectives for undertaking this internship were to gain insights into the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Australia, given my upcoming pursuit of studies in Australia. I aimed to enhance my communication skills in a corporate setting, gain experience in event management, and develop practical skills in planning, organizing, and executing events, with a focus on logistics, coordination, and problem-solving. Additionally, I sought to expand my professional network by establishing connections with influential figures from the Australia High Commissioner, MABC, International Chamber of Commerce, and other sectors.

Throughout the internship, I actively participated in key events such as the Interchamber Christmas Networking and MABC Golf events, where I acquired valuable insights into event organization that I believe will be pivotal in my university life. I also contributed to the organization by reaching out to members for membership renewals through calls and email reminders. Furthermore, I assisted in drafting press releases, including the MABC SABC MOU signing. In a supportive role, I attended sub-committee and executive committee meetings, where I diligently acted as the minutes recorder.

In this short but enriching period, I gained a wealth of knowledge and practical experience. I am sincerely grateful to the entire Secretariat Team at the Malaysia Australia Business Council for providing me with this invaluable opportunity. Special thanks to James Tan, Executive Director, for his guidance and imparted wisdom that allowed me to explore my potential and gain confidence in the professional realm. I extend my appreciation to Carol Edwin for involving me in MABC and enhancing my communication skills through various tasks. My heartfelt thanks to the entire team for making my journey at MABC both enjoyable and educational.
